AA plans to buy 460 jets from Boeing and Airbus

 

American Airlines plans to buy 460 jets with deliveries starting in 2013. It has options for 465 more, through 2025.

Airbus A320 Firm order for 260 planes in the A320 family. Includes 130 of the current version, and 130 A320neo (new engine option) planes.

Seats: 150
List price: $85 million, plus $6.2 million for the neo version.

Assembled: Toulouse, France. The similar A319 and A321, are assembled in Hamburg, Germany.

Advantage: The single-aisle A320 is new to American but widely used by other airlines. The neo version promises a fuel savings of 15 percent.

Boeing 737-800 American parent AMR Corp. intends to buy 100 current 737s and 100 more 737s once Boeing makes a version with a new engine.

Seats: 162
List price: $80.8 million

Assembled: Renton, Wash.

Advantage: American was already planning to buy this plane. A version with a new engine is expected to produce additional fuel savings.
