11.5 Million Flew with Austrian Airlines in 2012

Year 2012 as a whole: 1.8 percent rise in the number of passengers carried despite four fewer aircraft
December 2012: 2.4 more passengers, positive trend in passenger load factor continues

The Austrian Airlines Group increased the number of passengers carried in the entire year 2012 by 1.8 percent from the prior-year level to a total of 11.5 million passengers. The passenger load factor was up by 3.8 percentage points, rising to 77.5 percent. Capacity as measured by available seat kilometers (ASK) was reduced by 4.0 percent, whereas the comparable figure for revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) improved by 0.9 percent.

Considering the month of December 2012 in itself, Austrian Airlines carried more than 811,000 passengers. Although the capacity in available seat kilometers (ASK) was reduced by 6.8 percent, the number of passengers carried actually rose by 2.4 percent compared to December 2011. In December 2012, Austrian Airlines operated four fewer aircraft than a year earlier. However, the passenger load factor improved to 76.3 percent in December 2012, an improvement of 4.2 percentage points from December 2011.

Nevertheless, we succeeded in carrying more passengers. Accordingly, we managed to increase productivity, the passenger load factor and profitability.“

Europe
In the period January to December 2012, more than 9.2 million passengers flew with Austrian Airlines in Europe. This comprises an increase of 2.9 percent from the previous year. The passenger load factor rose by 3.7 percentage points to 75.3 percent.

In December 2012, a total of 676,100 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines in Europe. This comprises an increase of 3.5 percent from the previous year in spite of the capacity decline of 3.7 percent. The passenger load factor rose by 6.0 percentage points to 75.9 percent.

Intercontinental
In the period January to December 2012, Austrian Airlines carried a total of more than 1.6 million passengers on its intercontinental flights, a drop of 1.1 percent from the previous year. The passenger load factor climbed 4.1 percentage points to 79.4 percent.

In December 2012 capacity on intercontinental flights was down by 10.2 percent in a year-on-comparison due to the technical downtime required for converting its long-haul aircraft. The number of passengers carried on intercontinental flights decreased by only 4.9 percent to 120,200. Accordingly, the passenger load factor was 77.1 percent, or 3.0 percentage points above the prior-year level.

Charter
In the period January to December 2012, a total of 610,900 passengers flew with the Charter segment of Austrian Airlines, a drop of 5.7 percent from the prior-year level. The passenger load factor was up 2.3 percentage points to 78.7 percent.

In December 2012, passenger volume amounted to 14,900, up 14.1 percent from the previous year. The passenger load factor rose by 1.3 percentage points to 68.1 percent.
